Rob Loukotka Fringe Focus Print Club

No comments:

You know how all those clubs have dress rules or velvet ropes you have stand behind. Well this club that Rob Loukotka of Fringe Focus is doing has none of that pretentious crap. Rob has started a new print club for 2015 and you are at the front of the line. It's a bit unique, since it is both paid for and shipped quarterly. No need to pay for an entire year upfront, and no need to wait 6-12 months for your art. There will be two screen prints and a wood engraving in the first quarter, Jan/Feb/Mar 2015.

Here are a ton of details: https://fringefocus.com/i/printclub/

The benefits I list on my website (which you are free to abbreviate, I write too much):
  • Your trio of prints that arrive each quarter are discounted! Quarter #1 is $99 for $129 of art. That’s 23% off if you’re counting.
  • If you stay a member for 4 quarters in a row (one year) your quarterly package at the end of the year will include 1 Print Club Member Exclusive Poster (screen print). Also a mystery.
  • You will be assigned a personal edition number upon subscribing (lowest numbers go to members first). All print club prints are limited edition, and you’ll receive the same number on all of your prints, forever (well, as long as you subscribe).
  • Print Club Members will get their name and edition number engraved on a bigass wooden plaque here in my workshop. This will serve as a cool reminder of who Rob making art for, and who really loves Rob.
  • Free shipping. Since Rob is shipping 3 pieces at once to you, shipping is free for print club packages. (International shipping remains at $20, but the other benefits still apply!)
The last day to sign up and secure your position with Quarter #1 is today, December 31st. People are locked in January 1st, so new signups after that day then will begin with Quarter 2 (Apr/May/Jun).

Rob is planning on continuing this project all year, so that's roughly 13 prints at a discount for members who stick around all 2015.

Also, Quarter #1 has a theme: Darkness. All quarters will have themes, so your trio of art each quarter has a little bit of theme to it (could be color, tone, subject, etc.)

Motel Hell Francesco Francavilla Movie Poster Release World Premiere Exclusive

No comments:

As someone who recently got a meat smoker it is my pleasure to show you exclusively this tasty new treat, Motel Hell Poster by Francesco Francavilla and being released by Skuzzles. Motel Hell is a 1980 horror comedy film directed by Kevin Connor and starring Rory Calhoun as farmer, butcher, and meat entrepreneur Vincent Smith. People come from far and wide to sample Farmer Vincent's distinctively flavored dried, smoked sausages, but one might well ask why there are so few people staying at his nearby motel, named Motel Hello but the neon O in Hello is always flickering out. It seems that the good farmer only uses the highest quality, specially processed human meat in his treats. To prepare the meat, he first harvests healthy tourists from his hotel. Next, he plants them into the ground up to their necks and with a sharp knife carefully slices their vocal chords. He and his portly sister Ida then feed the victims until the meat is tender and well marbled with fat. Afterward they are promptly slaughtered, minced with a few secret herbs, and stuffed into sausage casings, which are then carefully aged in the smokehouse.

I talked to Francesco Francavilla about the poster:

Did Skuzzles give you a choice of movies to choose from to make a poster and if so why Motel Hell?
My first collaboration with SKUZZLES was the cover for the collector edition of JEEPERS CREEPERS dvd/blu-ray. Working on that with Brock was so much fun so when that gig was completed, we wanted to do more and soon. And the chance to do it presented itself almost right away with the MOTEL HELL poster. Brock asked me if I was interested and of course I was! '70s/80s horror? Hell yeah! :)

How did you decide on this design ?
I know usually the original MOTEL HELL posters have the chainsaw, but I wanted to go a different route and play on the fact that in the movie, at that place, they were serving "that" kinda meat. Hence my idea to use the cleaver (with reflected image of the victim). Thankfully both SKUZZLES and MGM loved the idea right off the bat. Of course, since we were planning a variant, we thought making the cleaver as foil for that edition was the right thing to do. Gotta say this was (again) much FUN to work on, so I am definitely looking forward to more SKUZZLES projects in 2015.

JC Richard The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly Poster Release

No comments:

Skuzzles are extremely excited to announce their officially licensed limited edition screen print movie poster for Sergio Leone's epic western film The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly (Il Buono, Il Brutto, Il Cattivo) that stars Clint Eastwood. The guys at Skuzzles are huge fans of western films and always wanted to add one to their roster of limited edition screen print movie posters. They created a small list of westerns that they would love to pay tribute and The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly was #1 on the list. When Skuzzles finalized the license for The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly it was a no brainer that JC Richard would absolutely knock this title out of the park--no doubt he did.

Here's a little bit about The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly Screen Print, straight from JC Richard:

"What to say about this one? Simply one of the best films of all time, and a personal favorite. Soon after I began concept work on this one (and with "Ecstasy of Gold" playing in a loop in my head), I knew I had to head to Sad Hill Cemetery.

Re-visiting the Sad Hill scenes over and over, I was constantly reminded of Leone's version to conventional framing... I recalled reading how he looked to great masters such as Goya and Degas as visual inspiration, stating he viewed Degas "as if he was a great film director.” Apparently he composed many shots using Degas’ loose layout approach-- he avoided centering actors within the frame and often kept a single figure close to the lens, where they would be be visually imposing yet largely cut off and compromised by the frame border. I wanted to emulate that approach for the poster-- Blondie set in extreme foreground in well-known gunslinger pose, visually and symbolically splitting/ connecting the other two figures in the arena..

For the variant, the most obvious change is the title language. A nice fade sunset replaces the blue sky, and the poncho switches from dark green to red(dish)--not only to reflect the change in overall lighting but also to mirror the fact that the garment seems to appear different colors depending on which print or promo still you happen to stumble upon..."

Todd Slater Arctic Monkeys Texas Tour Poster

No comments:

Todd Slater put his Arctic Monkeys 2014 Texas Tour Poster on sale recently and it looks great. Reminds me of his Eisley poster from 2005 but instead of bat this is a butterfly of sorts.

Todd discuss the design:
Earlier this year Rob Jones and I privately discussed an idea for Jack White that included his profile being constructed from the plasma filaments of a tesla ball and one solitary female finger reaching towards him. That print never came to be but the imagery stayed with me. For this print I used the tesla ball more as a metaphor to evoke ideas of touching, closeness and intimacy. The ornate mask hides her persona, adding mystery and creating an explosion of color.

The poster is 18 x 24 inches, 4 colors that is signed and numbered artist edition of 100

Glenn Barr T28 Recommissioned Print Release

No comments:

For their 1000th RUN (meaning the 1000th print they have published), 1xRUN will release a new print by Glenn Barr titled T28 Recommissioned.

"The original was created for Copro Gallery’s 20th Anniversary in 2013. I’ve been involved in many shows with them and did this piece specifically in celebration of a cool show I did together with Tim Biskup and the Coop based on the love of anime and Japanese monsters.

This was probably the 3rd or 4th time I had “reconstituted” Gigantor or T28 as I tend to call him. Since it was a 60’s cartoon, I always thought it would be cool to use the character as a leftover from another age and was turned into something else. I depicted a house made from his head once and another time I had turned him into a tank/vehicle … quite surreal actually." - Glenn Barr

Laurent Durieux It's a Wonderful Life Poster Release

No comments:

Dark Hall Mansion is proud to wrap its 2014 year with a very special surprise for all, they've invited back artist, Laurent Durieux, who DHM first introduced to the US market some years back, to create a piece for what is undeniably one of American cinema's greatest achievements, Frank Capra's 1946 masterpiece, "It's a Wonderful Life" starring Jimmy Stewart and Donna Reed.

Dark Hall Mansion, under license from Paramount Pictures, the Stewart Family. LLC, and the Children of Donna Reed, will be offering a very special stocking stuffer indeed by way of one of the most moving and profoundly touching films ever created, one that reminds us not only what the true meaning of Christmas and the Holidays is but that which is most important and to be held dearest in life.

PLEASE READ ALL CAREFULLY: Beginning THIS Friday, December 19th, 2014 and lasting until 11:59 PM Monday evening, December 22nd, 2014, DHM will make its Standard edition Laurent Durieux "It's a Wonderful Life" print available to all buyers via a timed edition. For those not familiar with timed editions the process is quite simple: By midday (PST) Friday, Dec 19th, the Standard edition print will be available for purchase in our DHM store page here: http://darkhallmansionstore.com Buyers may purchase and check out anytime to secure a print(s) up till 11:59 PM PST Monday, December 22, when the window to purchase will close. The final size of the Standard edition will thus be determined by how many prints are purchased during that time. If 300 sold, then the final edition is of course 300, if 3000 sold, then 3000. Buyers may purchase as many prints as they wish but must place each order individually. So to be clear, a buyer may purchase 1 print, 3 prints, 5 prints, whatever they desire, but need make each purchase individually as we cannot combine multiple orders. DHM usually combines orders for its customers where possible but will not be able to do so for this timed edition release as it would considerably slow the processing and shipping of orders when time comes to post out client purchases. The prints will ship in the first quarter of 2015 after settling the final edition run size and providing all figures to our printers on their return from the Holidays. Please understand, in advance, there will be NO cancellations or refunds-all orders are FINAL.

There will also be a select Variant, Foil and Wood edition of Laurent Durieux's "It's a Wonderful Life" piece. These will go on sale THIS Friday morning at 9:30 AM (PST) in the store here: http://darkhallmansionstore.com Expect heavy traffic as Laurent's pieces are always very much in demand. The DHM store is now hosted on Shopify, a major platform utilized by varied publishers, and per Shopify's request they have notified them in advance of the expected surge in traffic, but PLEASE be aware there is nothing DHM can do once the prints go on sale via their site. Different buyers have different experiences with Shopify, for most Shopify proves outstanding, quick and smooth, for others it's a challenge, so please direct your queries to Shopify vis a vis your browsers or other questions in advance so they might better address your concerns as there is nothing we can control as to their processing of customer orders. All purchases will be via Paypal only and they urge you to pre-register with Shopify.

Zoltron Black Keys Charlotte Poster Release

1 comment:

Last Friday The Black Keys were in Charlotte, North Carolina and they had Zoltron do the poster for the concert. This one riffs off a similar vibe, pre-war skeletal blues, using the eye-fry colors from their recent album cover. Zoltron printed these bigger than his normal posters and went with an unfamiliar seizure-inducing color palette. He is very happy with how they turned blue out.

The poster is 22" X 29" - 5 color Screen Print Signed and Numbered Edition of 300

Zoltron will be releasing a limited amount of low-numbered posters as well as a few shiny, sticky and otherwise tripindicular posters Friday at a random time

Gary Pullin The Abominable Dr. Phibes Poster Release

No comments:

Skuzzles is truly a passion business. They love to help create artwork for collectors and to create opportunities for artists that they're passionate about. Skuzzles knew Gary Pullin was a huge Vincent Price fan, so when they sat down with Gary to ask him if he was interested in working on a poster for the Abominable Dr. Phibes, his response was to simply prop out his arm and show us his tattoo based on The Abominable Dr. Phibes--his way of saying yes. It's safe to say that Gary loves The Abominable Dr. Phibes and Vincent Price as much as we do. Once Gary started showing them concepts, it was hard to narrow it down to a single one. They decided to go with two concepts for this timeless movie, featuring the one and only Merchant of Menace, Vincent Price.

Initially they did not have the rights to legally include Vincent Price's likeness or name on the poster, so they reached out to his estate. They spoke to Vincent's wonderful daughter Victoria Price who helped them through the process of legally granting the rights to include Vincent Price on their two new The Abominable Dr. Phibes posters. Both Skuzzles and Gary felt that without including Vincent Price, they could not offer a true The Abominable Dr Phibes limited edition collectible movie poster.

Here is what Gary had to say about his two designs:

“Vincent Price turns in one of his most macabre and memorable roles as the vengeful Dr. Anton Phibes. “Phibes Has Great Vibes!", the film's tagline and the Art Deco set designs were the main inspirations behind the regular edition. I wanted to include some of the Art Deco motifs and the clever, bizarre kills but I didn't want to give them all away, you'll have to revisit the film to see them all! The variant poster, plays up the doctor’s iconic disguise in a minimalist and fun way. I've been a long time lover of both Phibes films and I hope Vincent Price fans enjoy these posters as much as I enjoyed creating them.”

The Abominable Dr. Phibes - Art Deco Skull - $50
Size 24" x 36". Edition size of 135
4 Colors printed on French Speckle Tone Madero Beach

The Abominable Dr. Phibes - Night Vengeance - $40
