Jay Ryan Andrew Bird Poster

No comments:

Whoops, forgot to take a picture or this when I was at Jay's place the other day. Looks killer in person, this is a picture of the actual poster. Its funny cause I saw the Ram drawing on a table and thought it was cool looking then he pulled the poster out a few minutes later. Its kinda like an optical illusion depending on what you focus on, either the lettering or the image of the Ram.

On sale soon at The Bird Machine.com

Sneak peak of his Monsters of Folk Poster for tonights show

Well it is with great pleasure I bring you the inside of The Bird Machine. Jay was kind enough to let me stop by the other day, take some pictures, chat and change light bulbs with him. Got to see the shop and meet Sara and see lots of great art work. Diana was working and Seth was at home so I did not get to meet them. Someone else stopped by this week also Jay said,......Aaron Horkey. I have been a fan of Jays work for many years (5 posters framed in the house and flat file drawer full), so this was a big thrill to actually see his shop for the first time. Jay is one of the nicest people you could ever meet. He has done so much to help other people and causes with his benefits and yet is still one of the most humble down to earth people. Did I mention he is a great artist also?

Hand drawing all his stuff and seldom using the computer. His drawings are small 9 x 12 or so them he enlarges them. He cuts the rubylith by hand still to create the screens for printing. So he does not mess around with coloring the posters in the computer at all. Sometimes he does not know the coloring he wants until he starts printing them and even then adds more colors if needed.

Jay Ryan has been creating posters and printing them for 14 years. Tired of painting houses he started working at Screwball Press in Chicago and the rest is history.

THANK YOU AGAIN JAY for letting me stop by. He has a couple of articles coming out in magazines soon as well so keep an eye out for those

So go over to The Bird Machine.com and check out his stuff.

Sgt. Vasquez - the "R&R" print - rerelease by Huck Gee

No comments:

From Huck:

Okay folks, some asshat in Amsterdam bought 50 prints and backed out of the payment. It took us several weeks to go through the sales fee refund process via Ebay (boy are we finally glad to pull out of that store). Anyways, we now have everything sorted out, so here we go again, the official rerelease of the Sgt. Vasquez print!

Huck actually started this print back in January and due to creative frustrations and a busy schedule the print was set aside several times over the better part of the last year. It has grown to become a much deeper project than originally envisioned. Huck finally put pencil back to paper (and pen back to tablet) last month and hammered through the finishing details. So here we go, we present Sgt. Vasquez on "R&R". Looking decidedly bitter, debatably unrelaxed, and unenthusiastically unentertained by some UTCSO Clonettes. Read into this what you will...

On sale now. Each is printed on fine art watercolor paper (225gs), 18"x12.75" (21"x15.75"), signed, and gold embossed in the top right corner with the print #. Limited edition run of 99 prints, $75 per print.

Philadelphia Night 2 Pearl Jam poster by Tom Tomorrow

No comments:

Well here is the shirt from tonights show. Poster is the same image as on the shirt. Yep its getting worse.

http://thismodernworld.com/4964

Tom Tomorrow:
About those posters

In response to a number of questions, yes I did a series of four posters for the Philly shows this week which will form one large scene when placed next to each other (though with gaps left in the images between each poster so they don’t have to be jammed right up against each other to look right, if that makes sense).

Since these were for a series of shows the week of Halloween, my idea was to have a giant retro pop-culture costume-party theme — superheroes, robots, space people, monsters, etc., along with a number of band-related/requested “cameos” in the background, all (at least in my mind’s eye) comprising the audience to the last shows at the Spectrum.

The trick was to design four posters which would each stand alone, would work as a larger image when the full set was displayed together, and would work when displayed in sets of two or three. I knew that some people would be attending all four shows and I wanted to create something special for them, but I didn’t want anyone who could only attend one or two shows feeling that they “had” to get the entire set.

As for questions about a signed and numbered edition of the set — definitely not until after the New Year. I’m still recuperating from the Chicago poster sale.

Also: apparently the images are also being used on shirts. Last night was the first I’d heard about that. I guess you can form a larger image with those as well, if you get three other friends together and each wear a different night’s shirt …

OBEY X LEVI’S® X TIMES SQUARE X NEW POSTERS

No comments:

From OBEY:

The OBEY X LEVI’S® Project – 10/29 – Times Square Live Installation Event and Collaboration Release! The launch of the Obey x Levi’s® collection is the latest result of the ongoing collaborative relationship between Levi’s® and Fairey relationship.

I’ve always felt that keeping my art bold, simple and refined was a way to cut through the clutter, and it’s a formula that Levi’s® has been using for decades that keeps them accessible and populist yet stylish and relevant. The posters I created for Levi’s® are returns to the roots of my style: one side with an industrial propaganda poster feel that connects with the heritage of Levi’s® as a brand for workers, and the reverse side reflecting my other biggest influence, punk rock, and the connection of Levi’s® to punk and rock in general. – Shepard

OBEY X LEVI’S scaffolding went up in Times Sq this week –Traffic stopped at the huge plywood signage was hoisted on to the steel frames, as groups of fans gathered to capture the moment. On 10/29, Shepard will create a live art installation on the outside façade of this scaffolding in front of the Levi’s store in Times Square at 7pm. Poster signing will follow the installation. A video of the process will be posted to YOU TUBE shortly after the install.

Inspired by the Levi’s GO FORTH campaign shot by Ryan McGinley, and the words of poet Walt Whitman, Shepard’s version of the American Pioneer will debut at this event and he will sign this new graphic-immediately after the live installation. The PIONEER graphic is featured on the reverse side of four stand-alone images that combine to showcase the new image.

The OBEY X LEVI’S line is extremely limited and consists of 8 pieces that showcase with details selected by Fairey and inspired by his personal collection of Levi’s® denim. The collection even has an “Obey” Giant red tab- next to the Levi’s Tab. Each piece of the Obey x Levi’s® collection, jeans, denim jacket and flannel shirt comes with a specially designed, co-branded bandana with the OBEY MANIFESTO.

To see the rest of the clothing go HERE.

If anyone is going and gets an extra set of posters of the punk rock chick and wants to trade something for it let me know. Just make sure Shep signs it.

Directly after the live installation at 7pm, Shepard will have a signing of the LEVIS Collaboration Graphics and the punk PIONEER posters. The poster suite consists 4, 18×24 inch, posters with front and back printing – using LEVIS infused graphics of the OBEY FACTORY, PROPAGANDA ENGINEERING, STAY UP GIRL, and OBEY EYE. All 4 posters form one large punk PIONEER poster measuring 36×48 inches. The event is Free and open to the public – see you there!
